Ships & Rocks

These shipwreck art themed works were inspired by the story of Mi Fu, an eccentric Song dynasty (11th century) painter, poet, and calligrapher. Obsessed with collecting stones, Mi Fu would bow to one of his rocks in a display of filial devotion. Fantastic-shaped stones (known as scholars’ rocks) have been admired and collected in China for millennia as embodiments of primal earth energy. Hardy paired these with distorted variants on classic clipper ships.
